The tale of the Mittens

One day a few weeks back, I needed to go shopping. This day was a rather ugly day, as slush was raining down from the sky. So, to prepare for the cold on my car ride to the store, I donned my fish hat and Newfie mittens.
I had two stops to make on this particular outing, one at Walgreens, and one at Copps, a local grocery store. Now, these two stores are quite close to each other, and upon leaving the Walgreens, I decided to not wear my mittens as I would only be in the car for a brief period.
Anyways, I read Copps and start to do my shopping. About half way through I realize that my mittens are no where in sight. I search my pockets, bag, and shopping basket. No luck. I then figure that I must have left them in the car. I continue my shopping and leave the store.
I get to the car and drop off the groceries, and then start to look for my mittens.
I can't find them.
I go back into the store and look. No luck. I ask the service desk. No luck.
I give up looking for the day.
Two days later I decided to give it another try. I ask both stored if they had my mittens in their lost and found. They did not. I looked all over the parking lots, as I might have dropped them whilst trying not to step in the slushiest part of the lot. There were not mittens to be found.
It was then that I decided to deem them MIA, presumed dead. :(

Having greatly loved these mittens, I decided to make another pair. Hopefully they will serve me as dearly as did my previous pair. Here is what they look like:

Chrsitmas Gifts!

It's been a long time.

Mostly I just haven't been crafting. I got a full time job this summer in the Chicago area. I lived with friends of the family and just didn't really get around to making anything. Then school came around. It was my last semester....which doesn't mean that I worked really hard or anything. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It was my smallest credit load and the classes weren't all that difficult. I just didn't really feel like making things.
That is until November came around and I realized that Christmas was just a month away. It was time to make gifts!!

I made a few things, mostly for my boyfriend's (Alex's) family.

I made this Rikke hat for my Alex's brother's girfriend.

I made said brother a Wisconsin hat. He had one that was similar to it back in the day, but it got destroyed when his apartment caught fire. (He really liked it!)

I made Alex's sister a pair of mittens. I end up only finishing one for Christmas, but fortunately her birthday is on the 29th of December, so I was able to give her the second one then!

And last but not least I made said sister's husband some Star Wars ornaments for their tree:

So, that is it for now! I will probably update again soon as I have gotten back into the crafting mood!

Sweater!!

So, it has been quite a long time since I last posted. But I have been working on a big project lately so I haven't really had much to blog about.
The big project has been my sweater! It turned out quite well. My only beef is that I think I sewed all the pieces together a little to tightly. The result is that I don't think I will be able to wear anything with a thick sleeve underneath as the arm holes are a little tight, also, the sleeves tend to ride up a bit. But overall I am really pleased with it! (Also, it's OK that I won't be able to wear sleeved things under the sweater, it is already quite warm is and snuggly!)
Anyways, here are the pics:

I have already started a few other projects since this sweaters completion (about a week ago). A friend at work was admiring my most recent mittens and asked me to make a pair. I told him I would for a price and so here I am making more mittens! I have one done and am about a third of the way through the second.

Have yet to sew in the loose ends as you can probably tell. (it is by far my least favorite part of any project, so I always save it for last)

Also, just started a pair of leggings...more later...

Sadly, I have hardly touched Beartato since I got home. *Sigh* He's so close to being done as well. I have made a resolution to finish him once I am done with the mittens. It will probably only take a few hours...I'm just at a boring part so it's hard to get motivated. But I will finish him soon!

New Mittens!

So, these are the mittens I finished! And just in time too! It snowed this weekend! I'm personally not a big fan of winter, but I guess I get to make lots of cute hats and mittens for this season!

I got this pattern from here. I made a slight modification and ended up adding a little opening on the right thumb so that I am able to use my iPod without having to take the mitten off.

I really like the pattern, it looks really cool. I also accidentally ended up making it in the same colors as a hat I made previously. So I can wear them together and be super stylin!
